Benzoxazinoids in wheat allelopathy – From discovery to application for sustainable weed management

چکیده

Allelopathic activity of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) has previously been associated with the production phenolic acids and flavonoids (PAF), benzoxazinones (BXZs) phenoxazinones (PXZs). The biosynthesis BXZs is closely regulated during cereal growth, accumulation highest in young tissues variation genotype environmental conditions. This review focused on BXZ metabolites their impact germination, seedling growth physiological, biochemical, transcriptional proteome traits surrounding plants weeds. major pathways employed by for benzoxazinoid detoxification involve hydroxylation glucosylation polymerisation intermediates these pathways. Allelochemicals from various genotypes have shown to inhibit selected weed species, including Bromus japonicus, Chenopodium album, Portulaca oleracea, Avena fatua Lolium rigidum. Wheat allelopathy potentially exploited standpoint crop mulches, incorporation residues, tissue disruption, intercropping allelopathic cultivars application aqueous extracts. suppress development certain agricultural pests, insects, fungal pathogens, Many native plants, fungi insect herbivores inherently possess varying tolerance levels towards BXZs. However, other BXZ- susceptible species are adversely impacted elevated plants. Thus, considerations selection breeding possessing enhanced defensive ability via contents discussed. Here, objectives reconsidered a focus co-evolutionary aspects potential impacts biodiversity agroecosystems under study. For future efforts be successful, it important take such adverse into account, combination an increased enhancing beneficial effects within systems.

Durum wheat and allelopathy: toward wheat breeding for natural weed management

Wheat-derived foodstuffs represent about one-fifth of the calories consumed by humans worldwide. Bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is one of the most important crops throughout the world, and it has been extensively studied for its allelopathic potential. In contrast, for allelopathy in durum wheat (Triticum turgidum ssp. durum), our knowledge is partial and fragmentary. Through highlighting r...

Sustainable Weed Management for Unpuddled Transplanted Rice

Submit Manuscript | http://medcraveonline.com non-rice crops in a rotation such as wheat. Therefore, puddling for rice transplanting should be avoided as it has adverse effects on the succeeding upland crops. Unpuddled transplanting is an alternative method for rice establishment which can be adopted to overcome these problems and also to reduce cost of rice production. For this system, the lan...

Allelopathy an Environmentally Friendly Method for Weed Control

Biological weed management is a system that incorporates the use of diverse biological organisms and biologically-based approaches including allelopathy, crop competition, and other cultural practices to significantly reduce weed densities in a manner that is similar to use of chemical herbicides alone. Interest in developing effective biological weed management systems continues to increase be...
